We showed "Portraits of Artists" of The Hocken Collections of The University of Otago, Dunedin. The exhibition opened 11 July 2007 and ran until 19 August 2007 from 10am to 4pm at Shed 11. As both an artist and subject in the exhibition 'Portriats of Artists', Michael Smither gave a lecture on the subject of portraiture on Wednesday 8th August, at Shed 11.
The exhibition was shown in Auckland in 2005. A press release at the time described it as:

Works by some of the great names of New Zealand art including Ralph Hotere, Douglas MacDiarmid, Grahame Sydney, Rita Angus, Joanna Paul and Philip Clairmont are being loaned from the University's Hocken Collections in Dunedin.
Auckland Centre Head Adrienne Molloy says the collection of over 30 works entitled The Hocken Collections: Portraits of Artists is made up of both self-portraits and portraits of other New Zealand artists.
For example, there is a Rita Angus self-portrait as well as a portrait of her by acclaimed landscape artist Douglas MacDiarmid, while Alan Pearson's portrait of Michael Smither is mirrored by Smither's impression of Pearson. more...(external site 2005 press release )
